The Barnes and Noble Book Fair is coming up this Friday and I need to start thinking about what new books we will order with our book fair earnings. This is a big job, so again this year I am asking the 6th graders to help me out. Part of our library time this week will be dedicated to exploring the books recommended on book list and book review sites (such as those on this website's Great Links page). I'm particularly interested in suggestions for narrative non-fiction (this is non-fiction that reads more like a story) but fiction and informational non-fiction suggestions are welcome as well. Sixth graders and anyone else who would like to share a recommendation, please comment below. If you're wondering if we already have a particular book, please check our catalog before posting your comment. Thank you!

Thanks to these two very thoughtful second grade girls, our library has just added almost 50 books to the collection! This second grade class loves books, so the students were more than happy when they found out the requested gifts at these summer birthday parties would be book donations for the library. Thanks to all who contributed! You'll recognize the donated books because each is sporting a special bookplate in honor of the birthday girl who received it.
I hope you all had a fun and relaxing summer and enjoyed many wonderful books. It has been great seeing the students back in the library! They have been enthusiastic about the many new titles on our shelves, thanks to a big order from Scholastic with our book fair earnings and to some generous donations (including many terrific additions from our own Mrs. Vance!). Check the Home Page to see some of the new books.
I am excited that I will be seeing the middle schoolers on a regular basis this year. This library time provides opportunities for them to develop their library and research skills (which become more and more important as they progress through the grades). We will also spend time discussing books and recommending, reviewing, and searching for great books to read. Much of what we do in the library will offer direct support for learning that is going on in other Middle School classes. Keep in mind that the donation of a library book is a meaningful way to honor a child's birthday. We will put a bookplate in the front of the book to recognize the birthday student and he or she will be able to present it to the class. Please see the Wish List on the Friends of the Library page or talk to me about your ideas. As always, please let me know if you have any questions! Mrs. Maguire We have been very busy in the Middle School Library cataloguing books that are new additions to the collection. In particular, we are excited about some new non-fiction titles and new books for our series section. If you haven't stopped in lately, come see what's new! Piles of new books . . . What a great way to start the week! Big thanks go to Mrs. Horn for donating the majority of these books to our NDA libraries. The pile at left represents only about half of the total. Many of the books will be available for check out tomorrow and the rest will be on the shelves soon! Come back to the Library Blog in the coming weeks for more information on some of the newest additions to the collection. |
